South Africa’s education system is challenged with a range of issues, from inadequate teacher training to a lack of books and other resources, dilapidated schools, student absenteeism, and a vital need for early childhood development.

Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund

Maitland is a Lifetime Founder Club Member of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. In 1996 we set up the UK affiliate for the fund to which we provide financial support, office space and infrastructure services. Our lawyers act on a pro bono basis for the fund.

Khulisa Social Solutions

We partnered with Khulisa Social Solutions on a global mentorship programme which aims to identify challenges within Luphisi, a rural town in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and engage with its youth to find solutions and initiate action plans to overcome these challenges.

In addition to the mentorship programme, Maitland staff members in Cape Town also volunteered to work with Khulisa Streetscapes which focusses its efforts on building up forgotten members of society through providing opportunities to work in their inner city vegetable and herb gardens.
