Starting a new job at Maitland remotely

Darren Borchert, joined Maitland in September 2020, a few months after the initial COVID-19 lockdown in South Africa. He joined in a senior capacity as Team Leader for Offshore Transfer Agency (TA) Operations.

In this interview Darren gives a personal account of what it was like to join a new company remotely and to permanently work from home, as he lives in Durban and his team is based in Cape Town.

For a number of years, Maitland has invested in and benefitted from internship programmes. Internships, particularly in a South African context, provide a sustainable long-term solution to unemployed and previously disadvantaged graduates. When the national unemployment rate is as high as 27,6%, internships become crucial.
