John Mills, head of Maitland’s Luxembourg office, was recently awarded the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
This prestigious insignia is awarded on National Day inter alia to deputies, state councilors, civil servants and key players of the economic, social, cultural or sports sectors. The Grand Duke awards the order upon the recommendation and with the counter-signature of the Minister of State, president of the government.
The Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Luxembourg Grand Duke, presented the award to John at a private awards ceremony for services to the Luxembourg financial industry over the past 25 years.
A South African by birth, John has lived in Luxembourg for 28 years. He joined Maitland in 1991 and in 1998 was made a Partner. Soon thereafter, he took charge of Maitland’s fiduciary service business, which included, in 2005, playing an instrumental role in establishing the firm’s fund services business. Since 2011 John has focused on the client side of the business, although he recently served four years on the Maitland group board. He is a South African advocate, Solicitor of England and Wales, and Solicitor of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
John’s illustrious career spans legal, family office and fund services. He is experienced in international corporate and private client structuring, financing and investment. Private family and family office services are one of his specialisations.
