David was appointed Non-executive Director and Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee of Maitland International Holding plc in May 2017 following his 17-year tenure as CEO of Mondi, the FTSE 100 paper and packaging giant which is dual listed in Johannesburg and London. David has an illustrious career in management, commencing with Anglo American in 1989, moving to Mondi which was then an Anglo subsidiary in 1991, and serving as general manager for Mondi Europe before being appointed CEO of Mondi in 2000. He was instrumental in Mondi’s international expansion and led the group through a demerger from Anglo American plc in 2007.
David was a member of the Anglo American plc executive committee from 2003 and was an executive director of Anglo American plc from 2005, serving on the boards of a number of Anglo group companies. These roles ended when Mondi was demerged from Anglo American plc in 2007.
David is also Chairman of Kore Potash Limited, a company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
David is a CA, having done his articles with Deloitte. He has had a corporate business relationship with Maitland for over 20 years and is accordingly well acquainted with the firm.
